"Summer Moon" is one of a series of watercolor paintings I did one Summer. The images are based on photographs I took while on a walk at Blackberry Farm, a beautiful place near the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. The main barn at Blackberry Farm is a huge old barn with massive timbers and a sense of history. The old barn hasn't seen a horse or livestock in a long time. It's now a place of large parties, weddings and intimate fancy dinners. When I was standing outside I was struck by the warmth and glow of the lights within. I could see bits of the moon through the trees and I knew I wanted to capture the feeling of this old barn at night. The Luna moth I thought would add to the moment.
