Machine stitching is sufficiently strong for any office goods. The biggest drawback is the subtle markings left by the way the machine pulls the leather along. The biggest benefit is that it takes significantly less time, and therefor cost significantly less to produce.
Hand stitching is not only much stronger than a machine stitch but also much more beautiful, not only because of the lack of machine marks but because of the thicker, ribbon shaped thread that can be used which lays in the signature zig-zag pattern indicative of a good quality saddle stitching.
