Each letter is hammered individually by hand, therefore there will be slight variation in depth, spacing, and centering. Each horseshoe is hand stamped to order. About The Process : Hand stamping is the process of striking steel stamps with a hammer on an anvil in order to leave an impression in the material. A traditional looking anvil can be used for this process or in my case, a big block of steel. The horseshoe is clamped to the anvil so it doesn't move during the stamping process. Then each character is stamped individually one by one. Usually it takes 2-3 hammer strikes per character. The stamps themselves are made of tool steel, which has a significantly higher carbon content than low carbon or "mild" steel which is what the horseshoes are made of. This means that even though both the stamps and the horseshoes are both made of steel, the stamps are harder because of the higher carbon content. This is why the horseshoe gives way and deforms but the stamps remain unharmed from the hammer strikes and can be reused again and again.
