Great tool for kids just learning math concepts - lots of fun!

My daughter has the Hot Dots - Getting Ready for 1st Grade with one reading and one math book. The pen works however, it does not respond correctly with the dots selected. When selecting the correct answer, the pen says the answer is incorrect! Defeats the whole purpose of making learning fun!

I received this set to use with my 1st grade daughter. We are a homeschool family and I am always in search of new ideas and methods of teaching math. This book really helped her to work independently with instant feedback from the pen. My daughter worked quickly through both books but she frequently pulls them back out to go through them again. I feel they have been a valuable asset to our classroom at home. I would recommend them to friends and hope to purchase more hot dots materials.

I received Hot Dots Grade 1 Math to review with my first grade classroom. They love this product, and so do I! They can use this independently or in a small group. I have used this fabulous resource as a one-to-one tutoring tool as well as a choice during my math centers time. The books are small and spiral bound, so they are easily stored. The wands glow green for a correct response when the student touched a correct answer, and red when touching an incorrect answer. The wands can also be easily programmed by the students to be silent, low sound, or loud. There are two levels of materials for students to use, so I can my differentiate instruction. Book one includes place value, addition, patterns, measurement, money up to a dime (real coin photos), shapes, subtraction, and time to the half hour. Book two includes more challenging activities in place value, addition, data and statistics (first grade level), time to the half hour (quarter hour in the challenge section) money up to a quarter with the value of a dollar (half dollar in the challenge section), patterns and shapes, and subtraction. There is a nice variety to the practice books, so my students could practice just a page or two, or more if they wished. I highly recommend Hot Dots Let's master 1st Grade Math for classrooms, Title One tutoring, math centers, home schooling, and for families who want to support and/or enrich their children's math learning.

As a child, I struggled with math and had to have extra help for the first 4 years of my school aged life. It was not fun being behind and I always feared my children would inherit that trait. When my 7 year old started falling behind in math i wanted to nip it in the bud fast! Thankfully, I received a Hot Dot Grade One Math kit in for my daughter. After putting 2 AAA batteries in the interactive pen, my daughter was so excited to start learning. The pen allows kids to solve math questions in a fun way. The pen is very funny and interactive and does not make kids feel bad if they get the wrong answers. I am loving it so far, and so is my oldest child.

My daughter struggles in math. She doesn't find it fun like reading and she gets frustrated easily. I love that this set makes learning fun for her. She wants to practice math now. It's a great supplement to what she is learning at school. My daughter will ask me if she can play with it which of course I'm more than happy to say yes. This is a great set to buy for when you're waiting at practice since it's small and quiet.

My son loves playing with the Hot Dots Jr. sets. This Hot Dots 1st grade math is going to be so great for him in the near future. After looking through the book I know what kinds are things are coming up and can watch for him to be ready for this book in case it is before 1st grade. I want my child to be an accelerated learner and with the help of Hot Dots I know he can be. This pen is a great motivational tool. Lights and sound good off when an answer is chosen. This will help my child be able to do the books on his own in the car or at home. Moving from one Hot Dots book to the next is going to be so helpful in my child's education.

Hot Dots Let's Master Math is such a fun and easy game for kids to play both independently and with a small group. The packaging is easy to keep organized and both the pen and book fit back into the original box. As a classroom teacher it is important that the kids can access the materials by themselves and with this product there is nothing to worry about. The book covers many reading skills and the directions are also easy to understand and read, so my students can be even more independent! If you are looking for a gift or a classroom resources this would be perfect!

Another great set!. We really love the Hot Dots collection. We started with the Hot Dots Jr Master Kindergarten Math and now are moving on to this grade 1 math set. I thought it would be a great continuation to what he is learning. We thought we would help him get ready for the 1st grade. The set includes a Hot Dots pen and 2 interactive sturdy spiral-bound books. They have about 100 lessons between the 2 fifty page books. This set is harder for my son than the Kindergarten set but a challenge is always good. My son just loves learning with these sets, because he thinks it fun.So it is a win win for both of us. It works very simply. There are black dots next to each question, my son then picks and answer and places the Hot Dots pen on his choice. If he is right the pen turns green and gives him positive reinforcement. When he gets the answer wrong the pen turns red and tells him to try again. I really love as a mom that i don't have to stand over and watch him. This set gives him a sense of freedom. Hot Dots is totally worth every cent!
