Both my 4 & 6 year old love Hot Dots, and I love that they are branching out and adding science. It's a great addition and to watch my kids figure out how things work and learn the different names has been awesome. I really like the new pen and how easy it is for the kids to hold. I have used a lot of Hot Dots products before, but most of them were phonics or math based. I also tried some that have fictional stories, but this was my first time to try a nonfiction book set. I was very pleased! This science fact book is a really cool way to get kids reading nonfiction. I like that kids can interact with each page of the book. My kids really enjoyed discovering new facts as we read. Discosure I received a free item, but it in no way influenced my opinion!

The set came with 2 books and a pen. All the items seem sturdy. The books are wire-bound coated plastic and the pages are laminated to stand up to kids. My daughter is in 1st grade so we needed to work directly with her on these books. The books included fun facts and will be fun for continued learning.

Another great Hot Dots Item!! My younger son loves the hot dots for reading and math. This is an added bonus to the hot dots family. Has great science information to learn with a great new talking pen. It really teaches kids fun new facts at a younger age, still age appropriate and fun. Has great pictures in the book as well.

My kids really enjoyed this set. The hot dots pen was great in keeping my kids engaged and attentive during reading since the text was interactive. The books were fun to read with my 3 year old and he caught on pretty quickly on how to use the pen to answer questions the book was asking him. However, it would be too difficult for him to use this set without adult assistance. My 5 year old had fun reading these books once with guidance and then had fun rereading them independently (she is reading at a second grade level). The topics of the books were interesting although dinosaurs and space were the two favorite books that were constantly reread. We were given this product for free in exchange for an honest review. I would recommend this product. My kids are interested in the other hot dots products and books after reading and using this set.

My son is in kindergarten and loved this. It really does make learning about science fun, and I like that it is encouraging his reading skills. My son loved the talking pen that it comes with and he actually enjoyed listening to it again and again. These sets are perfect for kindergarten but I could see a younger child enjoying it as well. My sons favorite book was the one about Space.

My 4.5 year old son loves this. Specifically the interactive pen is no longer the blue dog which he thinks is more for younger kids. Instead it is a modern and fun green thick pen which he has said is for older kids like him! This kit manages to focus on what kids his age are fascinated by - dinosaurs, space, and scary underwater creatures! What I love most about this is he feels like he is using a technology tool but it is not the usual screen time instead he is actually looking at a book. I have sat down with him a bunch of times to go through each book and now he no longer needs me since the questions asked on each page become intuitive and he has been doing a great job.

Excellent resource that I am using in my Centers in a Kindergarten classroom. The kids love learning about dinosaurs and the HOT DOTS are something they love and have used all school year. The batteries last a long time in my HOT DOTS.

I received this product before our winter break at school to review. The comments are my honest opinion as I used it with a variety of ages (5-10). The kit contains 3 books- Dinosaurs, Space and Sharks along with a hot dots pen. The books are well constructed and 24 pages of fun facts. My students totally enjoyed using all 3 books. We were able to use them in our speech therapy sessions to target vocabulary, following directions and turn taking. These books would be a fun way to introduce the topics targeted or put in a classroom center for students to explore. This would also be fun interactive books for home use too. I thank Educational Insights for putting a larger screw on the hot dots pen to make it easier to open the battery compartment.
